On May 6, 2019, Spain time, Kunming Municipal People’s Government together with LaLiga and China Sports Futurity Investment (CSFI) signed a strategic cooperative framework agreement in which includes “LaLiga Hope Cup”, “Kunming International Sports and Health Valley” and LaLiga Football Academy Kunming”.

Mr. Hu Baoguo, Standing Committee and Deputy Mayor of Kunming，Javier Tebas president of LaLiga and Mr. Wang Jianguang, Chairman of CSFI signed the strategic cooperative framework agreement. The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Spain, Lyu Fan and the general director of Global Spain Office, Joaquín de Arístegui attended the ceremony.

Mr. Hu Baoguo, Standing Committee and Deputy Mayor of Kunming, said in his speech that Spring City Kunming and the world’s top LaLiga jointly introduced LaLiga football academy and “LaLiga Hope Cup” to Kunming, China, which is a major event in the football history of Kunming, a major initiative to implement the national strategy for Kunming and an important way to demonstrate its international image and quality, enhance its international influence and respond to the government’s call for the development of football industry. The cooperation with the LaLiga benefits the cultivation of Kunming football reserve talents and the improvement of football level in Kunming.

“This project is a big step forward in LaLiga’s strategy in China and shows our commitment to the development of football in the country at all levels,” commented Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga. “For years we have been collaborating with Chinese football, its clubs, institutions and academies. The new centre in Kunming and the tournament that we’re unveiling today are other examples of this partnership, which are tangible proof of the progress of this collaboration,” he added.

LaLiga has become the most important youth football championship at U12-U16 age in the world. LaLiga Hope Cup was announced whose first edition will be played in Kunming. In its maiden edition, U-16 sides from FC Barcelona, Sevilla FC, RCD Espanyol, Deportivo Alaves, Valencia CF and Atletico Madrid will be joined by six yet to be determined Chinese clubs. That will build an exchange platform for youth between China and Spain and attract domestic youth player to join in training for getting through international football professional development path for national youth. The project will help the development of youth training in Yunnan province, cultivate talents for Chinese football and create talent pool.

Meanwhile, his counterpart at the CSFI, Wang Jianguang, offered his thoughts on the collaboration. “The academy, along with the other facilities, will serve to boost participation in football in the region and improve the quality of the game. It’ll also put the county-city of Anning and the city of Kunming at the forefront of football youth development in China.”

“Kunming International Sports and Health Valley” is located at Taiping Xincheng, Anning, Kunming, Yunnan province and is planned in three aspects of “LaLiga Football Academy Kunming”, “LaLiga-themed Football Park” and “Sino-Germany Sports and Rehabilitation Medical Base”. “LaLiga Football Academy Kunming” will introduce LaLiga youth training system and use no-boundary teaching concept to enhance the quality of youth football players and popularize football culture.

Unique climate condition and location advantage of Kunming is in line with city development concept of “international, dynamic and multi-functional plateau sports and health center”. The cooperation is the deep practice between LaLiga and basic level education of Chinese football. Three sides will actively carry out setting up football academy, introducing international events, and developing youth football to launch comprehensive and deep cooperation and promote the development of football and industry in Kunming.
